Orthopedic Assessment in Massage Therapy Book   

Lowe’s text, Orthopedic Assessment in Massage Therapy, is the first and only book on orthopedic assessment skills written specifically for massage therapists. The first section of the book presents detailed information about biomechanics and injury pathology as well as a discussion of the HOPS (History, Observation, Palpation, and Special tests) system of assessment commonly used in orthopedics and sports medicine. This assessment protocol is presented in a way that is specifically tailored for use in the massage therapy setting. Each of the remaining seven chapters of the book are devoted to a specific region of the body.
 
Within each chapter there is a discussion of the muscles acting on that area of the body, how to perform active and passive range of motion tests, and how to perform manual resistive tests for muscle function. Following the discussion of the basic testing procedures, each chapter presents common soft tissue injuries of that area. Provided are illustrations of injury conditions along with detailed information about how the injury occurs. Suggestions for treatment are also included. Also included are special regional orthopedic tests that help identify the presence of certain injury conditions are described and illustrated with photographs. (305 pages)
