FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much weight does a portable massage table hold?
Portable massage tables typically hold a working weight, or the combined weight of the client and the amount of downward pressure applied during treatment, of 500 to 600 pounds.
How can I make my folding massage table more comfortable?
To create a relaxing bed for your clients, layering is key. Start with a massage table with generous built-in padding and consider adding layers of comfort.

Other considerations such as essential oils and diffusers, music, and dim lighting also lend to the overall aesthetic and experience.
What factors should I consider when choosing a portable massage table?
Choosing the right table involves consideration of two main factors: client comfort and therapist effectiveness. Although it is important that your client comfortably fit on the table, it is equally important that the therapist is able to effectively provide treatment. The following guidelines will help you make the right decision:
Size of the Massage Bed (Width, Length, & Height)
Depending on therapist preference, the width of the bed should be between 28” to 32.” For added roominess, consider armrest extensions. The standard length is typically 73” but some tables offer accessories like face cradles and leg rests that add anywhere from 7” to 18.”
Choosing a massage table with an adjustable height setting is ideal to accommodate sharing between different size therapists or to allow for more leverage in treatments requiring deeper tissue accessibility.
The weight of the table itself may factor in considerably for a mobile massage therapist. Portable tables typically weigh in between 22 and 46 pounds. Investing in a carrying case, if not provided, is highly recommended.
The weight capacity of a massage table is determined by the Working Weight, or the combined weight of the client and the amount of downward pressure applied during treatment. A working weight of 500-600 lbs is typically sufficient.
A thick, high quality foam will ensure that your client’s entire body is supported and comfortable throughout the treatment and will last for years to come. Industry standard calls for a 2” foam cushion; however, many portable tables include 2.5” to 3” padding for added comfort.
Types of Upholstery
Entry-level tables are often upholstered with a PVC Leather fabric. PVC leather is traditionally the most affordable option but lacks the comfort of the less economical alternative. A slightly more expensive alternative is PU leather, or polyurethane leather. This 100% synthetic fabric is an artificial leather made of thermoplastic polymer and is considered vegan. Another form of PU leather, called bicast leather, incorporates actual leather coated with polyurethane and is not vegan. Both of these alternatives are soft and hold up well to continued use.
Massage tables are typically constructed of wood or aluminum framing. When comparing tables in the same quality class, both materials can be equally as strong and have equal working weight thresholds. Entry level aluminum, however, is weaker than the professional grade material used in the higher end versions which directly affects the table’s longevity and can potentially dent or bend over time. If you prefer the wood aesthetic, inspect the frame for common wood flaws like knots and cracks.
Most importantly your table needs to fit your budget. And for that reason, we offer a variety of price points that allow therapists to get their business going and upgrade when the time is right.
