What is a Vichy shower?

Named for the French region from which it hails, a Vichy shower is a luxurious hydrotherapy treatment used after a body massage, polish, scrub or wrap. The unique bar with 5 to 8 shower heads is suspended over a padded table where the client comfortably relaxes in a lying position while the pulsating water washes over the skin. Vichy showers are thought to promote relaxation by soothing sore muscles and offer detoxification by improving lymphatic circulation.

What does a facial steamer do?

A facial steamer uses the properties of steam to open up pores and loosen dirt and residue for a deep cleanse. The moist warmth will also soften blackheads for easy removal and improve circulation to promote the replenishing of skin cells and oxygenation for a healthy glow.

How often should you use a facial steamer?

Facial steamers can be used on normal skin approximately two to three times per week. As dry skin is typically thinner, steaming once a week is appropriate; thicker, more oily skin can be steamed more frequently.

Please note: if you are planning to use a facial steamer at home, be sure to read all instructions and warnings before applying. Certain skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema should be steamed with the supervision of a professional.

How can I steam my hair with a hot towel?

Steaming hair is a welcomed do-it-yourself treatment or added spa service that effectively hydrates dry, shineless hair. To apply the treatment, simply saturate your hair with your favorite natural hair oil; add a few drops of essential oil like peppermint or lavender to enhance the experience. Wrap your hair with a warm, damp towel (microwave for approximately two minutes or use a warm towel from a hot towel cabinet). Encase the towel in plastic wrap or a plastic bag and either sit under a hooded dryer or use a hand blow dryer to maintain the warmth for approximately 15 minutes. Rinse the oils from the hair, shampoo, and conditioner as usual.
