Head/Face Rests
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I properly adjust the headrest on my massage table?
Minimizing face pressure and back strain is the goal of proper headrest setup. As each client is different, your face cradle position will change from person to person. To properly adjust your headrest, consider lying on your massage table and making adjustments to learn the differences.
Typically there are three different adjustments to consider:
Height:
To avoid strain on the upper back and neck, adjust the height. Typically thinner chested clients are most comfortable when the headrest is lower and thicker chested clients prefer a higher setting.
Angle:
Start by finding the curve of your client's natural back, neck and head alignment. Move the headrest little by little until you find the most comfortable spot for your client and then lock in.
Pad Width:
Often overlooked, the headrest pad, or face cradle cushion, can make or break client comfort. Pads are easily switched out to suit your client's face size.
What makes a good face cradle?
According to the experts at Earthlite, adjustable face cradles are typically the most comfortable. As client's come in all shapes and sizes, having an adjustable headrest will ensure comfort for everyone. Face rests should also be well-designed to reduce pressure on the sinuses and forehead. While a good design will satisfy your clients, finding the most affordable alternative with a good warranty will satisfy you.
How do I reassure my clients that my face rest is clean and safe?
In addition to disinfecting all surfaces including tables, bolsters and face cradles with a quality disinfectant before sessions and at the end of the day, use a new disposable or freshly laundered cover for each client. For added reassurance, put the face rest cover on in the presence of the client. Ensuring a clean and safe treatment environment is imperative and demonstrating your dedication to your client's health can set you apart.
