Bolsters
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a massage bolster used for?
Massage bolsters are used to properly position the client on the table achieving maximum relaxation, a sense of security and treatment effectiveness. When in the supine position, use knee bolsters to gently raise the client’s knees and wedges along either side of the torso for stability. Wrist and neck bolsters also keep clients aligned for longer lasting comfort. In the prone position, consider using shoulder, breast and pelvic bolsters to gently raise these areas into a natural position.
Bolster techniques for Prenatal Massage?
The side lying, or lateral recumbent, position is the safest position for prenatal massage. Most women find this position sufficiently comfortable when supported by massage therapy pillows, bolsters or cushions. Side positioning minimizes strain on the uterine ligaments and prevents increased sinus pressure. The Oakworks® Side Lying Positioning System is the perfect package of bolsters and cushions for prenatal massage positioning.
Why is positioning important for clients?
To maximize the massage treatment’s effectiveness, both the therapist and client should be properly positioned. Ideally the therapist should be positioned comfortably in front of the part of the body he or she is working on to ensure maximum potency of the massage. Using massage table bolsters and therapy pillows from quality manufacturer's like NRG, Earthlite, Oakworks and Custom Craftworks stabilizes the client’s body in a position that allows the therapist to remain as upright as possible and, in turn, give the best possible treatment to the client.
