FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is hot stone massage therapy?
Traditional Hot Stone Massage uses a combination of warmed basalt stones, massage oil, and massage technique to promote relaxation and pain relief. Firstly the massage stones are heated in a hot stone warmer. Using a skimmer or tongs, the therapist will remove the stones from the warmer and place them strategically along pressure points thought to balance spiritual energy and release stress – typically along the spine, between the toes, or on the back of knees. Then the therapist will use a preferred oil to gently massage the body. Some therapists will choose to use the heated stones as extensions of their hands for a deep muscle massage. In addition to full body massage, hot stones can be used to enhance facial treatments, pedicures, and manicures.
What are the benefits of hot stone massage therapy?
In addition to deep relaxation of the body’s muscles and soft tissues, hot stone massage performed by a certified therapist can alleviate pain, improve circulation, and is believed to rid the body of toxins. Enthusiasts of hot stone massage also claim to experience a feeling of enlightenment, inner peace, and renewed spirituality after a session.
How do I properly heat massage stones?
Stones should be heated in water to a temperature between 130 - 145 degrees. The safe, professional way to heat the stones is with a hot stone warmer. To avoid uneven temperatures, using a microwave or slow cooker is not recommended.
