FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How to read a trigger point chart?
A trigger point is ‘a sensitive area of the body, stimulation or irritation of which causes a specific effect in another part, especially a tender area in a muscle that causes generalized musculoskeletal pain when overstimulated.’* When pressure is applied to a trigger point, the muscle spasm cycle is interrupted and the contraction stops, effectively eliminating pain. Trigger point charts were created to map these areas for reflexology and myotherapy. To read these charts, first determine the source of the client’s pain on the chart. A series of dots or guides will help you identify the proper trigger point to alleviate the pain.
What kind of music should I play during a massage?
Never underestimate the power of ambience during a massage therapy session and massage music is an important part of that equation. Experts recommend having a go-to collection of music including soothing nature sounds, classical, New Age, Native American, relaxing instrumentals or other preferred sound healing therapy CD's for your clients to choose from.
How do I learn different massage techniques?
Continuing education classes are available online and encompass a wide variety of subject matter including massage techniques. Massage Warehouse also offers instructional books, videos and DVD’s to help you learn about massage modalities including hot stone massage therapy and TheraCane instructions, spa and salon therapy treatments such as waxing, threading, and eyebrow contouring, orthopedic assessments and more.
