FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I clean hair brushes?
Keeping your hair styling tools clean is vital to your client’s well-being and equipment’s longevity. To clean your hairbrushes and combs, begin by removing all strands of hair by hand or combing through the brush bristles. For tangled or difficult to remove hair, use scissors to cut the hair between the bristles down the length of the brush. (Experts advise removing hair between clients as well as at the end of the day). Next, loosen product residue or debris with a manicure brush or toothbrush and place in a bucket or container. Completely submerge in a cleansing solution of warm water and dish soap or shampoo and allow to soak for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and place in a second bucket or container. Add a sanitizing solution like Barbicide, following proper mixing instructions, and soak for an additional 10 minutes. After the final soak, place the disinfected hair brushes and combs on a towel to dry - Do NOT rinse. Repeat the cleansing, disinfecting and sanitizing process at least once a month.
How should I wash salon towels?
Like a personal bath towel, salon towels should be washed following the manufacturer’s instructions. In general, salon towels should be washed after every use separately from other salon linens. Use a quality laundry detergent and do not use fabric softeners. Wash smaller loads to allow for thorough cleaning and match similar colors and materials to maintain the integrity of your towels.
What towels are best for hair?
Microfiber towels are excellent options for drying hair as they minimize breakage and maximize absorbency. Made of porous strands of polyester and nylon and woven, Microfiber fibers are 100 times finer than human hair. When woven into fabric, each square inch is made of approximately 200,000 absorbent fibers that effectively reduce drying time and won’t leave balls of lint behind. Microfiber towels are also absorbent without the need for rubbing the towel over the hair. With less friction, both frizziness and breakage is minimized. Lastly, microfiber towels are cost-effective as they hold up exponentially more washings than other fabrics.
