What is paraffin wax made of?
Paraffin wax is a white or colorless soft, solid wax made from saturated hydrocarbons. Often used in skin-softening spa treatments on the hands, feet and cuticles, and feet, it can also be used to provide pain relief to sore joints and muscles.
What does a paraffin wax treatment do?
Paraffin wax treatments have been a mainstay in salon and spa treatments for decades. When applied to the skin, the warm wax locks in moisture and sloughs off dead cells leaving the skin smooth and soft and the client rejuvenated and relaxed. Paraffin, however, also provides pain relief for other conditions including fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and muscle or joint injury and can be applied using the same paraffin wax treatment equipment and supplies used for cosmetic purposes.
What massage supplies are used in hot stone massage therapy?
Traditional Hot Stone Massage uses a combination of warmed basalt stones, massage oil, and massage technique to promote relaxation and pain relief. Firstly the massage stones are heated in a hot stone warmer. Using a skimmer or tongs, the therapist will remove the stones from the warmer and place them strategically along pressure points thought to balance spiritual energy and release stress – typically along the spine, between the toes, or on the back of knees. Then the therapist will use a preferred oil to gently massage the body. Some therapists will choose to use the heated stones as extensions of their hands for a deep muscle massage. In addition to full body massage, hot stones can be used to enhance facial treatments, pedicures, and manicures.
What massage materials are used in Himalayan Salt Stone Massage?
This massage modality features the use of pink salt crystals harvested from the Himalayan Mountains and hand carved into massage stones. Intended to relieve stress and restore a sense of overall well-being, these stones are heated and applied with pressure with a technique similar to Swedish massage. When heated, Harmony Salt Himalayan Salt Stones allow the essential minerals within the salt to penetrate deeply into joints and muscles.
What does ear candling do?
Ear candling, or ear coning, is the practice of using a hollow core ear candle to extract stubborn ear wax from the inner ear. A practice that has been around for thousands of years, proponents of this method claim that the candle creates a pressure differential that pulls wax and debris out of the ear. Although ear candling is not a typical massage treatment, many full service spas and massage therapy establishments offer the service.
