FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator, or TENS unit, sends low voltage electrical pulses through the skin to trigger the body’s built-in ability to relieve pain. These electrical pulses are thought to cause the body to release endorphins that override pain signals in the brain.
Studies have shown that TENS units not only relax muscles but relieve muscle spasms, tightness, soreness and tension as well as reduce muscle knots and improve range of motion.
Ultrasound gel, a thick substance typically composed of water and propylene glycol, is a sticky nontoxic compound used to help the probe of an ultrasound machine better read the sound waves present inside the area of the body being studied. The gel works by eliminating air pockets between the probe and the skin creating a secure bond. The tighter the bond, the clearer the images will be.
Hydrocollators are thermostatically controlled water baths used to heat pads primarily made of bentonite clay. Once heated through, the packs are placed in covers and used on patients for rehabilitation and physical therapy sessions. Hydrocollator packs effectively reduce inflammation and relieve pain from injury or malady.
