Head/Face Rests
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I properly adjust the headrest on my massage table?
Minimizing face pressure and back strain is the goal of proper headrest setup. As each client is different, your face cradle position will change from person to person. To properly adjust your headrest, consider lying on your massage table and making adjustments to learn the differences.
Typically there are three different adjustments to consider:
Height:
To avoid strain on the upper back and neck, adjust the height. Typically thinner chested clients are most comfortable when the headrest is lower and thicker chested clients prefer a higher setting.
Angle:
Start by finding the curve of your client's natural back, neck and head alignment. Move the headrest little by little until you find the most comfortable spot for your client and then lock in.
Pad Width:
Often overlooked, the headrest pad, or face cradle cushion, can make or break client comfort. Pads are easily switched out to suit your client's face size.
What makes a good face cradle?
According to the experts at Earthlite, adjustable face cradles are typically the most comfortable. As client's come in all shapes and sizes, having an adjustable headrest will ensure comfort for everyone. Face rests should also be well-designed to reduce pressure on the sinuses and forehead. While a good design will satisfy your clients, finding the most affordable alternative with a good warranty will satisfy you.
How do I reassure my clients that my face rest is clean and safe?
In addition to disinfecting all surfaces including tables, bolsters and face cradles with a quality disinfectant before sessions and at the end of the day, use a new disposable or freshly laundered cover for each client. For added reassurance, put the face rest cover on in the presence of the client. Ensuring a clean and safe treatment environment is imperative and demonstrating your dedication to your client's health can set you apart.
What is the softest disposable face cradle cover?
The EarthLite® Flat Disposable Face Cradle Cover is the softest disposable face cover available. This highly rated cover is ultra-soft and hypo-allergenic due to its absorbent medical-grade fiber construction. Wholly disposable and non-sticking, Earthlite face cradle covers are perfect for replacing cotton or flannel covers, saving you the time and cost of laundering. Its silky fabric slides easily over your cushion like napped cotton. Along with being extra soft, EarthLite’s cradle covers surpass other disposable face cradle covers in protecting your clients from the bare upholstery on a face cradle or headrest pad.
How often should I replace my headrest?
Determining the frequency of your headrest replacements depends on several factors. For example, if you purchase a high-quality headrest pad with memory foam, you will likely have more extended periods between changes. Also, you must consider your client load and maintenance efforts. Regardless, you should check your headrest regularly for signs of wear and tear, such as material cracks or a loss in shape or support. Generally, it’s safe to assume that you must replace your headrest every one to two years. However, most manufacturers of massage table accessories will include special care instructions and product cleaning recommendations to help you get a longer performance from their headrests.
Will optional headrest accessories sold separately fit all massage tables?
Most optional headrest accessories, like the NRG® Premium Microfiber Massage Headrest Cover, can fit any headrest. However, some headrest accessories will only fit specific brands or models. Also, certain optional headrest accessories may not be compatible with some massage tables with non-standard shapes and dimensions.
Will I need to buy any additional parts or tools to add a new face cradle to my massage table?
You can easily add a new face cradle by sliding the two parallel bars into the center outlets in the massage table until it locks in place. As a result, these height-adjustable face cradles are one of the simplest massage products to install and manipulate. For example, the EarthLite Caress™ Self-Adjusting Face Cradle allows you to effortlessly insert the product into the table and withdraw it for cleaning and maintenance.
