Paraffin

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I clean a paraffin wax heater?

Cleaning your paraffin wax heater on a regular basis is highly recommended to keep the unit sanitary and your clients safe. Most paraffin equipment manufacturers recommend a multi-step process as follows: Turn off the unit and let the wax harden overnight; the next day, warm the wax just enough to loosen the edges and easily remove the block of wax; clean the inside of the unit with a spa disinfectant or household cleaner; if reusing the wax, remove the bottom layer, where the previous day’s accumulated debris will settle, using a heated knife before placing the wax back into the unit. As paraffin heaters differ in design, please be sure to consult your manufacturer’s manual for complete product-specific instructions before cleaning your unit.

What is paraffin wax?

Paraffin wax is a white or colorless soft, solid wax made from saturated hydrocarbons. Often used in skin-softening spa treatments on the hands, feet and cuticles, and feet, it can also be used to provide pain relief to sore joints and muscles.

What does paraffin wax do?

Paraffin wax treatments are a mainstay in salon and spa treatments for decades. When applied to the skin, the warm wax locks in moisture and sloughs off dead cells leaving the skin smooth and soft and the client rejuvenated and relaxed. Paraffin, however, also provides pain relief for other conditions including fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and muscle or joint injury and can be applied using the same paraffin wax treatment equipment and supplies used for cosmetic purposes.

How should I melt paraffin wax?

Although many homespun methods have been used to melt paraffin wax such as in a double boiler on a stovetop or in the microwave, experts recommend using paraffin wax equipment to properly melt and maintain consistent temperature of the wax. Heating units are available in different sizes and for a variety of uses. Paraffin wax spas, or paraffin baths, are large enough to accommodate feet, elbows or hands and are often used in pedicure treatments. Smaller units like the Amber Pariffinette is a perfect size for dips or brush applications. As uneven heating and unpredictable temperatures typical of alternative heating methods can cause burns to the skin, paraffin wax warmers remain the preferred method to melt paraffin wax.

Is paraffin wax vegan friendly?

Yes. Made from crude oil, paraffin wax is manufactured without the use of animal products. Please check labels as certain products associated with paraffin treatments may or may not be 100% vegan-friendly. Brands like Amber Products, however, claim that no product or ingredient they used is ever tested on animals.

Does paraffin wax help cracked hands and feet?

Yes. Paraffin wax treatments warm and soften the skin while opening the pores for better absorption of healing ointments and repair creams like Footlogix Cracked Heel Formula or Amber Green Tea Mint Recovery Cream.
