FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where should cleaning solutions be stored?

Each manufacturer will provide direction regarding the proper storage and disposal of their individual cleaning solutions. In general, however, cleaning solutions should be stored in original containers and kept away from children and pets. To avoid cross-contamination, take care to store away from food, water, feed, or any products used on or near clients.

Please refer to the manufacturer’s label for specific directions and more detailed information.

What is a hospital grade disinfectant?

Hospital disinfectants are EPA registered and approved for use in hospitals, clinics, dental offices, and other medical facilities, and have been proven effective in eliminating microorganisms often found in healthcare settings.

How do I efficiently disinfect my massage table between clients?

In order to minimize your turnover time between clients, preparation is key. Make sure to have a supply of clean linens including massage sheets, face cradle covers, blankets, and towels readily available. You should have at least one set of table linens and multiple towels for each client you will see that day. Also be certain to have an EPA approved disinfectant on hand as well as a sealable storage for soiled linens.

Begin by covering the massage table or the warmer and padding on the massage table with a heavy-duty table protector. Cover your face cradle, arm rests, leg rests, bolsters or any other area of the table your client will touch with disposable covers. Then prepare the table and accessories with linens of your choice.

In between clients, simply remove the soiled linens and place in an airtight container. Disinfect the plastic sheet over the massage table as well as any other exposed areas of the table with an EPA-approved disinfectant. If a table protector is not used, clean the massage table with soap and water and wipe it down with disinfectant. Finally, replace the disposable covers and linens.

Do hand sanitizers kill viruses?

According to the CDC, alcohol-based hand sanitizers can quickly reduce the number of microbes on hands in some situations, but do not eliminate all types of germs. Although alcohol-based hand sanitizers can inactivate many types of microbes effectively when used properly, people may not use enough of the product or wipe it off before it has dried.

The CDC recommends washing hands with soap and water whenever possible. In the event that soap and water are unavailable, using a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol can be effective.

Do disinfectants have an expiration date?

Yes. Disinfectants and sanitizing product labels will include a date of expiration. Although using them after expiration is not dangerous, the product's effectiveness can be reduced dramatically. Replacing expired disinfectants, cleaners, and sanitizers as directed is recommended.
